Queensland’s container refund scheme, Containers for Change, aims to increase the recovery and recycling of beverage containers and reduce beverage container litter.

Since 2018, the rate of beverage containers recovered and recycled in Queensland has risen from 18 per cent to over 63 per cent. The scheme complements kerbside recycling services and provides people in regional and remote areas with the ability to recycle their beverage containers.

Your feedback is being sought on expanding the types of containers eligible for a refund. Expanding the scope of containers that are eligible for a refund will help to further improve recycling across Queensland.

This is a proposed change, feedback collected during the consultation will be considered before any additional items are added to the scheme.

For now, please continue to place the containers being considered for inclusion in the scheme in your kerbside yellow-top bin, where this service is provided. You cannot take these bottles for a refund.
