The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) has co-designed the draft management plan in partnership with the Kabi Kabi People and Butchulla People.

The draft plan sets the strategic direction for the management of the area. It details Cooloola’s natural, cultural and social values, and outlines management directions to improve or maintain those values into the future.

Cooloola is valued for its exceptional scenic and natural beauty and important ecosystems; habitats for a variety of vulnerable animal species; world-renowned visitor experiences; a number of Queensland Heritage Register sites; and more.

The planning area for the draft management plan includes:

  • Great Sandy Resources Reserve
  • Double Island Point Conservation Park
