Consultation has concluded
Closed: The online consultation for the draft management plan for Nerang National Park, Nerang Conservation Park and Nerang State Forest (Nerang NP) has now concluded. Submissions received during the consultation period will be considered and analysed to inform a Final Management Plan.
The draft plan sets the strategic direction for the future management of Nerang National Park. It outlines the key values of the area along with the actions needed to protect its natural and cultural values, and to ensure that the area is accessible for recreation by the community. The plan aims to strike a balance between providing multiple recreational opportunities, protecting visitor safety and infrastructure, and conserving the ecological key values of the park.
The draft plan has been co-designed with the Traditional Owners of the Nerang Area, the Kombumerri people, who have a very strong connection with the national park and surrounding country. In developing the plan, extensive consultation was undertaken with Traditional Owners, mountain bike groups and conservation groups.
The Nerang area is valued for its biodiversity conservation, cultural values, community involvement in park management and sustainable recreation activities. Four key values have been identified:
Lowland rainforest
Nationally significant wetland—Lake Coombabah wetland areas
Open forests and woodlands
Mountain bike riding experience.
The overarching value of Yugambeh (Kombumerri) cultural landscape and elements has also been identified across the park.
Accompanying the release of the draft management plan is a resource information document and a draft visitor strategy.
You are encouraged to review these documents and provide feedback by completing this online survey. There are seven (7) mandatory questions. The rest of the survey has been designed to allow either a quick response, or a more detailed submission, to one or more areas of interest.
